IMPACT REPORT LA PINELLA & CO SRL SB

2022

1 - Introduction

 

Pinella & Co Srl is a Benefit Company founded at the end of 2019, owner of the Luce Beauty brand, with the aim of creating and marketing cosmetics capable of illuminating the uniqueness of each person through skincare products formulated for sensitive skin, with natural and organic ingredients, functional to the health of the epidermis. Our philosophy is based on the fact that the beauty of the skin, without gender distinctions, is the reflection of its well-being, which is why our formulas are designed to obtain progressive, realistic and visible results.

To realize this project, a passionate team was formed, with a majority of female quotas and it was decided to entrust the production of Luce Beauty cosmetics to an Italian company that had a focus on natural cosmetics, that was family-run and all-female.

Following this line, it was decided to collaborate exclusively with Italian companies, trying to contribute to the development of the Made in Italy market.

Thus was born a young and passionate company, which wants to give everyone the opportunity to take care of their uniqueness and always feel at their best, in total safety and respecting the environment.

Based on these principles, the choice to assume the legal structure of a Benefit Company (regulated by Law 28/12/2015 n. 208 paragraphs 376-384) was natural, since in the philosophy of La Pinella & Co and therefore of Luce Beauty, the cosmetic product is not limited to solving skin problems, but becomes a promoter of positive impacts in terms of inclusiveness and environmental sustainability within the society in which it operates.


2 - Who we are


Luce Beauty, the brand owned by Società Benefit La Pinella & Co Srl, has the mission of marketing cosmetic and personal care products inspired by the philosophy of the Clean Beauty Movement, to build a cosmetics that is sustainable towards the environment, inclusive towards the community and that promotes the work and purchase of raw materials Made in Italy. 

Luce Beauty is actively committed to environmental protection, through practical activities and through the use of recycled, recyclable and certified packaging. All our products, as per European regulations, are strictly cruelty free and we use raw materials of natural origin (over 97%) as well as being, most of them, certified Organic.

2.1 - The Pillars of Light Beauty


The four pillars on which Luce Beauty is based are:

Formulations with a high percentage of natural and organic ingredients

The aim of creating effective and safe treatments for skin health is combined with the formulations of our products.

In fact, our formulas are made with excellent ingredients that are not harmful to the environment or the skin. 

All our formulations are dermatologically tested for sensitive skin, are Nickel tested and are free from substances identified as most responsible for irritation, such as Parabens, Silicones, Sles, PEG, Alcohol and colorants.

Attention to the search for natural, organic and quality ingredients is an element that we consider fundamental for the safety of the epidermis.

Except for sun products, all our products have AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi organic certification.


Inclusivity

For us, the charm of each person lies in their uniqueness, thus the philosophy of “I Am Light” was born.

#IosonoLuce is a declaration of absolute love for uniqueness, for particularity, for the details that characterize each person. An invitation to accept your body and your features and to take care of them.

With #iosonoLuce we want to move away from stereotypes of beauty and artifice to return to giving value to the true nuances of any man or woman, without distinctions of any kind. And this is why, with the launch of our first line of body products, we launched the campaign “For everybody“.

We care about the theme of inclusivity and we try to express it every day through our social channels, because it is often the dimension of social media that conveys a distorted idea of ​​fake and unattainable beauty.

We must feel free to be who we are, it is our differences that make us wonderful and unique!


Sustainability

We chose to be born and be a skincare company totally respectful of the planet and the sea.

Our company is committed to the search for short supply chain ingredients, using extraction methods aimed at reducing consumption and waste.

The protective filters of our sun products are free of substances considered harmful to coral reefs and marine habitats. We have abolished the use of microplastics or raw materials that could be in any way harmful to the ecosystem in which we live.

To reduce the impact of plastic, we have made all our packaging in glass, recycled plastic or bio-based. R-PET, the material that is used in the majority of our packaging, is PET obtained through recovery and recycling processes of common PET that involve sorting, washing, crushing and melting plastic materials. Its particularity is that it is a material that can be recycled countless times and for this reason, each bottle can re-enter the production cycle as a valuable component. The recycling of PET bottles for new productions provides an important contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Likewise, all our paper packaging is FSC certified and we provide detailed guidance to our consumers on the recycling methods of our packaging, to educate and raise awareness among our customers regarding separate waste collection.

For the same reason, as an alternative to polystyrene we use biodegradable corn chips to ensure the integrity of the product.

In our first year of life we ​​inaugurated the Clean the Beauty project, an awareness campaign on marine plastic pollution, also contributing to the cleaning of some of the most polluted beaches on our coasts.  


Made In Italy

We proudly support the value of Made in Italy with the production of skincare treatments that have an entirely Italian production chain.

The companies we rely on for the creation of the formulas, for the production of packaging and gadgets are all Italian companies.

As a brand that creates formulas with a very high percentage of natural ingredients, we decided to use raw materials that come largely from the rich Mediterranean scrub.

We prefer to support small businesses and contribute to our market and, at the same time, we are sure that we can boast excellent quality.

3 - What are benefit companies?


Benefit corporations represent an evolution of the very concept of business that allows for the creation of a new paradigm that unites two concepts at the basis of the life of a company, namely its profitability with sustainability for the communities with which it interacts.

While traditional companies exist with the sole purpose of distributing dividends to shareholders, Benefit Corporations are the expression of a more evolved paradigm: they integrate into their corporate purpose, in addition to profit objectives, the purpose of having a positive impact on society and the biosphere.

Benefit companies have two fundamental characteristics:

  • They explicitly state their attention towards all stakeholders, both shareholders and stakeholders, in their corporate purpose

  • They measure their results in terms of positive impact on society and the environment with the same comprehensiveness and rigor adopted for economic and financial results.

Benefit corporations are required to prepare an annual impact report that outlines progress against specific objectives included in the statute and communicates targets for the new year.

This document is the third impact report of Luce beauty which includes within it the description of the specific objectives achieved in the past year and the objectives to be pursued in the following year.


4 - Objectives pursued and impact generated


Since its foundation, Pinella & Co Srl has believed in the legal form of the Benefit Corporation, because it is convinced that in this precise historical moment, companies can no longer limit themselves to creating profit, but must actively play a fundamental role in the development and improvement of the society in which they operate, committing to raising awareness among its customers on issues of fundamental importance such as inclusiveness, in addition to having to commit to safeguarding and respecting the planet.

As established in Art. 11 of the statute of La Pinella & Co, our organization:

“intends to pursue one or more goals of common benefit and to operate in a responsible, sustainable and transparent manner towards people, communities, territories and the environment, cultural and social activities. (...)”

The objectives promoted at a specific level for 2022 were:

  • Minimize the use of paper packaging for our products where not necessary and continue the commitment to use recycled or recyclable packaging

  • Ensure a fair contribution to its employees that allows them to have a healthy lifestyle and in line with the social needs of the moment

  • Support the non-profit organization FIAGOP (Italian Federation of Associations of Parents and Recovered Persons of Pediatric Oncohematology) through the activity “I run for them”.

  • Continue to raise awareness among our audience on issues of environmental sustainability, inclusiveness and gender equality

Below, we will discuss in detail one by one the objectives we have set out to achieve.

4.1 - Minimize the use of paper packaging for our products where not necessary and continue the commitment to use recycled or recyclable packaging


As announced in last year's Impact Report, we have started a long-term project aimed at minimising the use of paper and cardboard packaging for our products where unnecessary.

The goal we set for 2022 was achieved with the first products in September 2022, through the change of packaging for the products in the “Detersione” line. For this line we replaced the old 200 ml bottles with 150 ml bottles in white RPET to protect the product inside, eliminating the external paper case from these first 4 products.


4.2 - Ensure a fair contribution to its employees that allows them to have a healthy lifestyle in line with the social needs of the moment


We are a micro business and it is essential for us that our employees feel comfortable in their workplace and that at the same time, they are satisfied and live a happy life outside of working hours. For this reason, in February 2022, to deal with the global economic situation, we decided to give a monthly pay rise to each employee. In this way, together with the meal vouchers, we wanted to give a signal and real support to deal with the problems of society and the era in which we live.


4.3 - Support the non-profit organization FIAGOP (Italian Federation of Associations of Parents and Recovered Persons of Pediatric Oncohematology) through the activity “I run for them”.


On the occasion of the charity event “Io Corro per Loro” which took place in Rome, we contributed with a donation to support the FIAGOP Onlus for scientific research against cancer in children and young people.


4.4 - Continue to raise awareness among our customers on issues of environmental sustainability, inclusiveness and gender equality


The primary objective within the society in which we live should be to achieve gender equality and abolish discrimination of any category of people. Unfortunately, it is clear that gender equality is still far from being achieved in Italy and in the world. At the same time, it is essential for us to make as many people as possible understand that Climate Change is a process that has already begun for some time and that we must all actively engage in trying to reverse this process. We try, through our social media and the influence that we have as a company, to convey how this goal has not yet been achieved, trying to raise awareness among our customers on this issue and that of climate change.


4.5 - Other objectives not set but achieved


There are some goals that were not set during 2021, but that our organization has decided to undertake along the way. We believe that Green and sustainable cosmetics are an important cornerstone for the cosmetics industry. This is why we decided to participate in the “Green Cosmetics” category at the Elle Beauty Awards, a competition promoted by Elle Magazine Italia. To our great joy, we won the award with our Filler Boost Serum as “Best Green Product 2022”. In addition to the great satisfaction it brought us, this award was a very important means of communication for us on green and sustainable cosmetics.


05. Future Goals and Conclusions


2023 will be the year in which many Benefit objectives set by our company will be crowned. First of all, those activities started in previous years and not yet completed will be completed, in addition to undertaking new initiatives aimed at raising awareness in the community on issues of fundamental importance for integration, inclusiveness and environmental sustainability, fundamental values ​​for La Pinella & co Srl Società Benefit.

The objectives that our company has set itself to achieve for 2023 are:

  • Achieving Vegan Ok certification on vegan cosmetic products

  • Continue to raise awareness among our customers on issues of inclusiveness, gender equality and against violence against women

  • Support the annual care of a stray dog ​​through the volunteer organization “Un Tesoro di cane odv”

  • Support the non-profit organization “Treedom” through a financial donation for reforestation

  • Commit to using a courier that can find more eco-friendly ways to deliver packages

  • Provide additional company benefits to Employees by setting up Smart Working on a weekly basis.

  • Commit to giving an end-of-year bonus to employees equal to 1% of the net profit obtained by the company

  • Achieving External B Corp Certification for Impact Assessment
