LUCREZIA'S STORY: WHEN A MOUSTACHE CHANGES YOUR LIFE
Today's story, that of our Lucrezia from the Luce Beauty Community, reminds us how delicate our relationship with our skin is and how daily choices, together with external factors such as the sun and hormonal fluctuations, can have long-term consequences.
Today, Lucrezia tells us how she managed the appearance of a dark spot above her lip, exacerbated by sun exposure and hormonal stress related to the use of the contraceptive pill.
Hi Lucrezia, thank you for sharing your experience with us. Could you tell us when you first noticed the stain?
" Hi, thank you for the opportunity!
It was May 2023, it all started after a simple homemade wax on my upper lip. The area, immediately after the tear, was a little red but it was nothing new! I have very fair and delicate skin and I always do these treatments only before going to sleep for this very reason. The next day my skin was apparently normal, no redness or irritation. I put sunscreen on my face and then spend a day at the beach.
The next morning, I woke up and saw for the first time a dark spot above my lip… that looked like a mustache! "
How did you initially react to the stain and what were your first steps?
" At first, I confess that I hoped that the stain would disappear on its own, in a few days! I tried to hide it with makeup, but I knew that it couldn't be a long-term solution! After a couple of days I made an appointment with the dermatologist to understand what to do; the dark stain was really evident and was causing me a lot of discomfort! "

What were the causes?
" According to the doctor, the stain could be a reaction due to a combination of hormonal stress and sun exposure. In fact, at that time I was also taking the pill! "
What is the relationship between the pill, the sun and spots?
" My dermatologist explained to me that birth control pills increase levels of estrogen and progesterone, which can stimulate the production of melanin, the pigment that gives color to the skin. Excessive melanin production can lead to the formation of hyperpigmented spots, especially when the skin is exposed to the sun, as UV light can further exacerbate pigmentation.
It is for this very reason that she reiterated to me that it is recommended that women who take the contraceptive pill, or any hormone therapy that can affect melanin levels, use a highly effective sunscreen when exposed to the sun, to reduce the risk of developing melasma. ”

How did you deal with the problem from that moment on?
" First, I started taking specific supplements that help manage and prevent melasma by acting on various fronts. They contain ingredients that can reduce the formation of melanin and protect the skin from free radical damage such as vitamin C, glutathione and vitamin E, but also lycopene and zinc.
Then I started using sunscreens with an adequate protection factor every day, even in the city, and a specific stick with total protection to apply directly on the area affected by the brown spot. "

Are there any Luce Beauty products that you have integrated into your routine?
" Yes, absolutely. I started using Luce Beauty's Sunlight Face Cream SPF 50+ , which offers high protection and helps prevent the onset of new blemishes thanks to a specific active ingredient.
I also use the serum Sun Defence spf30 , my favorite product!
It was very effective in making the spot less visible and improving the overall appearance of my skin, in fact it contains an anti-spot peptide that helps lighten melasma! "
What advice would you give to someone who might find themselves in your situation?
" After a year, the situation has definitely improved but is still not completely resolved. I will continue to take care of the spot and treat my skin with the utmost care to prevent new melasma.
I would advise not to underestimate the importance of sun protection, even when you are not directly exposed to the sun. Furthermore, it is essential to consult a dermatologist as soon as you notice significant changes in your skin, especially when they are related to possible
hormonal imbalances. "
